Edge of Darkness

You are playing as the leader of a city being enclosed by darkness. The only thing that lies beyond the darkness is the horrible, nightmarish monsters that call the darkness their home. To fend off the monsters you must build towers and defend your city. But be warned if you fail to fend off the monsters and they destroy your Citadel, you will begin to gain insanity points. Too many insanity points and your citizens will become the very monsters you are trying to fight. 

But hey! You want to survive and you are going to build your defenses. You start with a Citadel and a few resources. Resources can be collected from the ground once revealed by the light, by clicking on them. When collecting resources there is a chance they will come across a gem shard. Once you find enough of these shards they will combine and create a large magical sphere emitting light across the horizon. It will rise into the air and restore light to a world plagued by darkness.

Edge of Darkness was made by a team of 6 for a practice game jam.
Our theme was 'World's Edge'.
Our team came together and decided on a world where you are living and interacting with the edge of the world. The edge of the world, to your city, is just outside the walls, past the lights and into the darkness. However, we did not want to tie the theme into just the gameplay mechanics and art but also into the sound design. To be on the edge of everything you have ever known can be confusing, disheartening, and terrifying. If you listen to the tracks within the game you may be able to pick up the different tones that mirror the storyline.
